The fifth release of Wolfburn’s Kylver limited edition series will hit Australian shores early 2020, the distributor has confirmed today.
Scotland’s most northerly mainland distillery, Wolfburn has been one of the most critically acclaimed ‘new’ Scottish distilleries since its first release in 2016. The Nordic and viking-inspired Kylver series first appeared in August 2016 and has showcased various cask treatments in very limited quantities.
Release 5, which is being bottled this week, is a five-and-a-half year old matured 50-50 in Pedro Ximenez and first-fill bourbon casks. There are 960 bottles in the release worldwide, with Australian importer Bibendum Bar confirming an Australian allocation to Whisky Ardent today. It is likely to arrive early 2020.
Each of the Kylver releases takes its branding from a runic letter of the Kylver alphabet. The fifth, Raidō, means to ‘to ride’ or ‘journey’.
In the distillery’s own words, “On the nose you’ll sense fruitcake and almonds, while the palate opens up to reveal butterscotch, dried pears, marzipan and toffee. The finish brings hints of oak and vanilla. The sherry influence is there throughout – it’s a real treat.”
Production for the Thurso-based independent distillery began in January 2013 and they released their first whisky expression in early 2016. The distillery’s brand ambassador Mark Westmorland made his first Australian visit in July this year, hosting a range of consumer and trade tastings around the country. The core range Northland, Aurora and Langskip releases are consistently available locally through Bibendum.
