Local whisky subscription service The Whisky Club have today announced an expression from The BenRiach which has been created for their October offering.
Distilled in 2010, the single malt has been vatted from whisky matured exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and has been bottled at 46%. It is the second time the Club have worked with Master Blended Rachel Barry following their 2007 PX cask GlenDronach.
Although The Whisky Club started humbly out of Tasmania, it has become one of the biggest whisky retailers in the country through its monthly offerings. The releases are now largely created exclusively for the Club, which sells only to Australian members.
In today’s announcement the Club says of the expression, “There’s so much to love here, a gorgeous medley of flavours that combine in a mouth-sizzling splendour (it’s a Fruit Tingle for adults). Sweet bourbon oak and mountain herbs perfectly balanced with lemon peel, decadent crème brûlée, a touch of honey and caramelised fruit, with a lingering creamy vanilla finish.”
The Whisky Club is free to join, with whiskies offered monthly to members at around the $100 mark, depending on the release. It follows an opt-out model. September saw the Club dip its toes into American whiskey for the first time, with an expression from Portland’s Westward.
