Brisbane's Death & Taxes has been named Whisky Bar Of The Year at the 2019 Australian Bar Awards, held in Sydney tonight.
It is the first time a bar outside of Victoria has picked up the award since the category was introduced in 2016.
Martin Lange is the name behind Death & Taxes, who’s been involved with a number of bars including Cobbler, Saville Row and the now-closed Sling Bar. Lange's wife Wiebke and business partners Blake and Belle Ward are the other partners. A cocktail bar with a strong whisky focus, it is a new bar on the Brisbane scene having opened in April this year.
The 2019 shortlist featured three Queensland bars, three from Victoria and one each from New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
