A 60% ABV version of Archie Rose’s Rye Malt Whisky has been awarded a gold medal at the 2019 International Wine & Spirits Competition, with Lark, Overeem, Nant and Twenty Third Street also being recognised.
The annual awards cover a wide range of wine and spirits and is one of the more recognised competitions globally, with prominent industry sponsorship and backing. Archie Rose’s Rye Malt topped the Australian entrants with their 60% Rye Malt attracting an impressive 98 points.
Judges described it as, “A beautifully complex and well-structured whisky. Honey and vanilla run through all of the other layers, including a fruity Christmas cake with accompanying marzipan, an obvious and glorious spicy and peppery, aromatic rye note with a fabulous, long and elegant finish to boot.”
Earlier this month Archie Rose released Batch 1 of the 46% Rye Malt, their first whisky release.
Overeem picked up a Silver medal with their 43% percent Port Cask attracting 93 points alongside Lark’s 43% Classic Cask and Twenty Third Street’s Single Malt also awarded silvers with 90 points each.
Bronze medals were awarded to a 60% Single Malt from Archie Rose, which has yet to be released as well as releases from Lark and Nant.
