With just 2,071 bottles in Batch 1 their very first ongoing whisky release, Sydney’s Archie Rose have opened the ballot for the opportunity to pre-order the expression.
Batch 1 of the Rye Malt Whisky, which will be a staple of the Archie Rose portfolio, will be released Thursday 1 August. Retailing for $119, it will be distributed to successful ballot applicants, who will be drawn 8.59am 29 July. Successful applicants will have 48 hours to purchase their bottle, before it is made available to others.
Demand is expected to considerably outstrip supply, give their very first release – the Chocolate Rye Malt Whisky – sold out in less than two hours at Cellar Door and slightly longer online.
The Rye Malt signals the long-anticipated launch of a core range Archie Rose whisky, who’ve been distilling consistently since early 2015. The whisky is distilled from malted rye and malted barley grains, matured in 36-month air-dried virgin oak barrels.
In their own words, “This layered, aromatic spirit offers notes of spiced custard, ginger, stone fruit and baked apple pie with a fresh herbal finish that lingers on the palate.”
As well as the ballot for single bottles, founder Will Edwards and Head Distiller Dave Withers will be hosting a launch event Monday 5 August, with tickets on sale Monday 8 July. Each ticket includes a take-home bottle of the Batch 1-branded Rye Malt.
The second batch of the Rye Malt is expected to land in September and will appear throughout bars and retailers. Proceeding batches are expected to become a staple expression across both on and off-premise venues.
Archie Rose’s single malt expression will be launched at a later date, unlikely to be in 2019.
