Lagavulin has taken the wraps of its 2017 Islay Jazz Festival expression, a distillery-door release which will be highly sought by Lagavulin collectors.
The iconic Islay distillery release a new expression for the event each year and 2017’s edition will be release at cask strength 57.6%, without an age statement.
It has been matured in a mixture of first-fill and refill American oak ex-bourbon casks, with an outturn of 6,000 bottles.
The bottle is available now from the distillery, and only the distillery, with bottles limited to two-per-person.
It carries a recommended retail of £99 (AUD$170), but expect any bottles that reach Australia via the secondary market to far exceed that.
Alongside the annual Feis Ile whisky-focused event, the Jazz Festival is one of Islay’s biggest events on the calendar and regularly attracts visitors from around the world. Recent figures have shown that record number of whisky tourists are flocking to Scotland post-Brexit.
Lagavulin is one of Islay’s single malt ‘heavy hitters’ and the crown jewel in Diageo’s peated single malt range.
