Diageo have revealed eight expressions which will make up their 2019 Special Releases with Mortlach, Pittyvaich, Lagavulin and Talisker amongst the distilleries represented.
The traditional releases of Port Ellen and Brora were spun out of the series last year and while the Lagavulin 12-Year-Old returns, the single grain, un-peated Caol Ila and blended creations are absent. Cardhu, Cragganmore, Dalwhinnie and Glen Ord make up the other four expressions.
The expressions from cult-loved, 2.81-times-distilled Mortlach and the closed Pittyvaich are likely to be much-discussed by whisky fans excited following the announcement.
The overnight announcement does not have full details of the releases, nor does it give a roll-out timeline although that usually occurs in the final quarter. Given that Australia usually sees the Special Releases four-to-six months after the UK releases, it is likely that they will not arrive locally until 2020.
