Kathleen Davies is the founder of Nip Of Courage, an independent distribution company that deals exclusively with Australian whiskies and spirits. As well as mentoring her own brands in product development, distribution and marketing, Kathleen is a regular on industry panels. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more committed and dedicated champion of Australian spirits.

Describe your job in five words

Distributor of Australian Craft Spirits.

What do you appreciate most in a whisky?

Your glass can be half empty or half full, as long as there is good quality whisky in it.

What do you appreciate least in a whisky?

Cork stoppers, they are dated and a pain in the backside.

What is your most treasured whisky?

Raymond B 100% Corn Whiskey.

What is your favourite virtue in a whisky bar?

Bartender knowledge, passion and enthusiasm.

What do you most dislike in a whisky bar?

A lack of Australian whisky being ranged.

If you could have any job in whisky, what would it be?

Selling it, I’m already living the dream.

Who is your hero in whisky?

Bill Lark , the Godfather of Australian whisky.

What is your idea of whisky happiness?

Introducing people to Australian Whisky for the first time.

What phrase do you most overuse when talking about whisky?

“Support Australian craft distillers.”

When do you lie about whisky?

When someone wants to mix a good quality whisky with coke, I tell them “I think I hear my mum calling me.”

Who or what is the love of your whisky life?

Timboon Shagger’s Reserve. It’s a very sexy drop.

What is your happiest whisky memory?

Trying my first dram of Australian whisky.

What is your saddest whisky memory?

Running out of whisky period.

Who do you most admire?

David Vitale of Starward.

Sherry cask or bourbon cask?

Sherry (or apera).

What is your greatest achievement?

Having our Australian spirit range exclusively listed in NOMA restaurant Sydney.
