Sullivans Cove Release 17-Year-Old American Oak Cask

Sullivans Cove have released two new American Oak single casks today – a 17-Year-Old ‘Old & Rare’ expression and a 13-Year-Old standard release, the latter of which instantly sold out.

The distillery, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2019, sent out an email to subscribers today announcing the two releases.

At 17-years-old cask HH0476, which carries the ‘Highland Holdings’ moniker of Sullivans’ previous distillery site, is amongst the oldest Australian whiskies released. It was distilled September 2000 and decanted 17-and-a-half years later in April 2018. The 200 litre ex-bourbon cask yielded just 151 bottles at 47.6% and is presented in an oak presentation box. It is retailing for $800 through the distillery’s website.

The 13-Year-Old expression, cask TD029, was another 200- litre cask, yielding 215 bottles at 47.5%. It sold out today at $330 through the distillery.

Official tasting notes for HH0476:

Nose: Berries, waxy flowers, candied ginger, mandarin rind, brioche, a hint of floral perfume, and lots of pear.

Palate: An explosion of mandarin on a sweet vanilla base along with a bonanza of tropical fruits through in the mid palate. Top notes of pepper and pine forest keep things freshly balanced.

Finish: Vanilla, coconut and preserved fruits with a malty cocoa line that drives the finish and lingers almost indefinitely.
