Some of the biggest names in whisky expertise and writing have been confirmed for the re-branded Whisky & Dreams whisky event at Melbourne’s Starward Distillery this March.
Previously Independent’s Day, Whisky & Dreams has a new date and focus in 2018 with a host of international guests confirmed in the first announcement.
World leading whisky writer Dave Broom (author of the World Atlas Of Whisky and a driving force behind the ScotchWhisky.com website) and Charles Maclean (one of the foremost and most recognisable experts in Scotch whisky) will both be in attendance at the event, which will take place over two days – Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March.
Joining them will be Alex Bruce (of independent bottler Adelphi and distillery Ardnamurchan) and Berry Brothers & Rudd’s regional sales manager Luigi Barzini.
There will be two sessions each day, from 11.30am – 3pm and from 5pm – 8.30pm.
Now in its third year, the first announcement raises the stature of the event from a cult-whisky-lovers mark on the calendar to one of Australia’s most prestigious events. On top of expanding to two days, the organisers – whisky and spirit importers Baranow’s Emporium – have announced a handful of 15-people capacity masterclasses for Whisky & Dreams. In the first one Broom and Maclean will go head-to-head showcasing old school vs new school whiskies, while Bruce will hold his own masterclasses with Adelphi’s latest Fusion release – a series of blends from Scotch and ‘new world’ whiskies.
Exhibitors confirmed for the tasting festival in the first announcement are Adelphi, North Star, Berry Brothers & Rudd, Rest & Be Thankful, Diplomatico Rum and Asta Morris. After a successful move to Starward’s Port Melbourne location in 2017, Whisky & Dreams will return to the venue in 2018, although in March rather than last year’s July.
It takes place the week after New Zealand’s sold out Dram Fest event.
Tickets are on sale now and available in three packages – $65 for standard entry, $115 for entry and one masterclass or $165 for entry and both masterclasses. Booking fees apply.
All responsible tastings, food voucher and branded glass are included in the ticket price.
